Open Weds - Sat 11 - 6pm

Jessie Whiteley is a Glasgow based artist. Her current work is primarily painting, drawing and comics, as well as collaborative projects.

The work derives from observation of the everyday and the multitude of realities within it, using painting ability to synthesize different registers of reality in a singular space . The current paintings are made with egg tempera paint. Jessie uses the qualities of the pigment paint, of the colours staying separate on the surface, to break down the colour and image.  Through dabs of colour, the makings of objects, characters and environment, are echoed within each other, and dissipated. In these paintings she is thinking about meaning and perspective in human practices and behaviour as well as in pictorial space.

Jessie was a recent fellowship holder at Castro projects, Rome 2019-2020 and in 2019 received awards from the Kirsten Scott memorial trust and the Eton fund.
